A conjunction is an invariable element that links other elements within the sentence. Subordinate conjunctions link a subordinate clause (fragment) or sentence to a complete, independent sentence. The second sentence is subordinated to the first one. Here are a few examples:

porque - because
así - just as, this way
si - if
con tal que - as long as
así que - therefore
además -also
