Overview

The verb expression tener que can be used to indicate obligation. We use the formula tener + que + infinitive

Let's look at some examples of proper use in the present tense.

Tengo que cambiar de tren.
I have to change trains.

¿Tengo que estar en el apartamento?
Do I have to be in the apartment?

Tú tienes que aprender las palabras.
You have to learn the words.

Tú tienes que ir a la biblioteca.
You have to go to the library.
