BUYER BEWARE: Don't believe any of those five-star ratings w/o comments -- and I'd even be suspicious of those five-star ratings with comments. Rather, read jusdewit's comment and then read mine. I've been studying Spanish throughout Mexico for the last ten years, and have had mostly good experiences at professional schools. For example, read my evaluations of Escuela Falcon in Guanajuato, The Baden-Powell Institute in Morelia, Culturlingua in Tlaquepaque or the Queretaro Language School (now no longer operating). All of these schools were professional, legitimate business with well-prepared teachers at a much lower cost. NOT Freida Language School, however! My first clue should have been that the school was very difficult to find. There was no signage. It was difficult to find someone to let me in. Once inside, there is no signage on the door. My guess is that this business is illegitimate and is trying to avoid paying taxes in Mexico, or perhaps has been sued. I can only guess. Even though I had been in contact w/ someone via email, the woman at the desk didn't know who I was, and told me it was a bad time to come. (The email correspondence told me it was a good time.) My guess it that the person operating the school is located off-site and doesn't know what goes on in the school. I took a placement exam on the spot. They finally arranged a teacher for the following day for four hours of private lessons per day. The first lesson started 20 minutes late because the teacher for the group lesson was late, so my teacher opted to sit with the group rather than with me. She did not have a lesson plan prepared. She did not go over my placement exam. She did not use my placement exam to determine a lesson plan. In Morelia, Guanajuato and Queretaro I took a placement exam before arrival and I was asked what I would like to study. By the time of my arrival, my lessons had already been planned. Each private class had a different teacher. Study material was provided. Not at Freida (which costs up to 40% more than the classes I took at the aforementioned schools)! During the first day of class, the teacher asked me if it was all right if she went to a doctor's appointment on the second day. She would arrange for someone else to take the class during the last hour. No problem, I said. However, on the second day (the class started late again), she left two hours early rather than one. And I waited. And waited. Finally after 40 minutes, I went downstairs to the administrative offices and informed the administradora that my teacher had left. The administradora had no knowledge of this, or of any arrangement! She said that she would call the teacher. I left the school. I received an urgent email from the teacher MANY hours later scolding me for saying anything to the administradora! I still have the email (and series of emails) from her and you can email me and I’ll send it to you. I immediately contacted administration and asked for a refund. I never received any more correspondence from the administration, only from the teacher. Apparently, the administration forwarded my correspondence to her and she responded, and every time she corresponded, she had a different story! I didn’t return to Freida and I didn’t get my money back. SAVE YOUR MONEY! There are many good schools in Mexico. Freida is not one of them!

Very disappointing!! The school activities in the afternoon were cancelled for the whole week with the exception of a trip to a museum. The cooking class never happened and an instructor informed me that in three years she never saw the class given. My teacher was unprepared and came to class without a lesson plan, was one of the worst teacher I've ever had. The classes were larger than I was told they would be. The director Jesus was clueless about what was going on. The only good thing about the school was its location.
