i had a fantastic time in Oaxaca. the staff was very friendly and very experienced. i spoke to many students from other schools in Oaxaca and none seemed to be as happy as i was with my choice. i also was impressed by the progress i made in just 3 weeks. the school organised trips and was in every matter extremely helpful and friendly. i recommended the school to everybody i know and will do so in the future. i hope to get the chance to return one day to improve my spanish even more... carmen gamo234@web.de

I am a French and English language instructor and am therefore a very demanding student. I was looking for a school with highly trained teachers with a passion for and knowledge of the Spanish language. At Oaxaca International Language school I found exactly what I wanted. Besides the excellent language instruction, the instructors were able to adapt their teaching to my specific needs. Though there were few students Leticia et Ileana made an effort to provide the cultural activities I wanted. They listened carefully to my desires and provided an ideal host situation for me in Oaxaca and arranged a weekend for me with a weaving family in Teotitlan. I learned so much and found the experience so rewarding that I extended my stay. I have just returned from Oaxaca and encourage students to go there now. It is not at all dangerous contrary to media reports and the schools are in dire need of students.

My 18 year old daughter and I have just returned from studying with Oaxaca International. We found it to be an excellent experience. For our particular two week study period we had one-on-one classes. Our instructors who were extremely competent and eager to help us explore the language and culture of Oaxaca. Our home stay was also excellent, our 'family' helped us learn and study, fed us traditionally, generously shared their family celebrations and allowed us to see the "real" life and culture of Oaxaca. We sincerely recommend Oaxaca International.

This is an excellent school for all age levels. Competent teachers provide personal attention and are always there to help.Ileana runs a professional institution with able support from her husband Augusto. We, my wife and I, had two hours of private tutoring from Augusto who introduced us to grammar in an orderly and nonoverwhelming manner. Later on during the day, we had an hour of conversation from various teachers. In four weeks, we were able to improve our grasp of Spanish from almost nothing to an intermediate level. Twice a week, at no extra cost to us, Ileana and Augusto provided personnally escorted outside activities introducing us to Mexican culture and history. The family they organized for us to stay with, treated us like family providing excellent home cooking, conversation and help in every aspect of life in Oaxaca. We definitely want to go back to the school in the near future.

This school truly is first-rate. I have been to Guanajuato and Cuernavaca - OI is better than either, and I never thought I'd say that after the teachers I had in GTO. Ileana and Augusto are wonderful, experienced, and extremely proficient in their subject matter, and try to make everyone feel comfortable. The post-class activities are icing on the cake. I will definitely go back.

The owners Ileana and Augusto are excellent teachers. They offer weekly field trips that are not only very interesting and educational but also free! This is a small school with attention to individual needs. The class sizes are small and the quality of teaching is excellent. I highly recommend it.

I spent five months in Mexico studying each month in a different city and different school. In that time, Oaxaca International was the best overall experience. First off the school is extremely caring and offers a good mix of cultural activities combined with proffesional teaching and quality education. I can not imagine a better school to attend considering this combination. The value for money, activities and education are all top notch.

J’ai été très satisfaite de mon séjour linguistique de quatre semaines à l’école Oaxaca International. Les propriétaires de l’école, qui enseignent également, sont très honnêtes, professionnels et aimables. Même si nous étions peu d’étudiants pendant la période où j’ai fréquenté l’école, je n’ai jamais été placée dans un groupe qui ne correspondait pas à mon niveau de maîtrise de l’espagnol. Il y avait un bel équilibre entre le temps consacré à l’enseignement des règles de la langue et la conversation. Nous faisions deux sorties par semaine, l’après-midi, qui nous permettaient d’entrer en relation privilégiée avec les artisans de la région ou de découvrir des sites d’un grand intérêt sans être nécessairement très touristiques. J’ai été très bien logée chez une famille d’accueil d’une grande gentillesse qui a également contribué à l’amélioration de ma maîtrise de l’espagnol. Merci à mes professeurs, à ma famille d’accueil et à la belle ville de Oaxaca où je me suis toujours sentie à l’aise et en sécurité. I was very happy with my four-week language course in Oaxaca International Language School. The owners of the school, who also teach, are very honest, professional and friendly. Although we were few students during the time I went to that school, I was never placed in a group that did not match my level in Spanish. There was a good balance between time devoted to teaching the rules of language and conversation. We made two trips per week in the afternoon, which allowed us to enter into relationship with the artisans of the region or to discover sites of interest without necessarily being very touristic. I was very well accommodated by my host family which has also helped me to improve my Spanish. Thank you to my teachers, my host family and the beautiful city of Oaxaca where I've always felt comfortable and safe.

Overall, the school was a great experience and a fantastic value. The school was a tight knit community with good teachers and the included excursions were terrific. The price was cheaper than the other schools, yet the school was rated excellent on TripAdvisor and was, indeed, very good.

We were a bit disappointed in the school. The facilities were acceptable, but barely. The programs seemed disjointed and not well organized. Sometimes we would do excercises (e.g., indirect objects) with no real explanation beforehand. I was glad I had a good understanding of the grammar already. The conversation part of the program was good, but beware... if you sign up for a 1-hour/day session, it is up to you to get up in the middle of a session when your time is up. Otherwise they will charge you for a 2-hour session, regardless of what you sign up for. The immersion family we stayed with was the best part of the experience. They were gracious, patient with our limited conversational abilities, and their home was very lovely. Overall, we will look for a different school on our next excursion.
